Hadley Grace May
Just Too Sweet to Stay

Grandmama Sanders told a story once,
To explain why the young sometimes die

She said the story was hard to understand,
No matter how hard you try

You see God gives us some special ones,
To them he gives the best

They have special gifts,
That makes them sweeter than the rest

The problem with this story,
The thing that makes it seem so bad

These special ones can’t stay too long,
And that just makes us extra sad

We don’t have long to hold them,
We can’t know why it must be this way

But see, according to the story,
They’re just too sweet to stay

We had a little angel with us for a while,
With golden hair, big blue eyes and such a pretty face

She meant so much to so many,
Her name was Hadley Grace

It was easy to tell that she was special,
She had so much joy to share

We stood amazed at everything she did,
There was nothing she would not dare

She could really steal the show,
She could dance and sing and play

We would laugh until it hurt,
At all the funny things she’d say

She lived life big and happy,
Even when she hurt so much

You see the joy she felt,
The pain could not touch

Everyone she encountered,
Can’t forget the day

They met this special Angel,
Our little Hadley May

Some will never touch another’s life,
No matter how long they might live

But Hadley had a special way,
A special gift to give

No one could be around her,
Even for a little while

That won’t always remember,
How she left with a smile

Our special light is gone now,
God had to call her away

She has special work to do in Heaven,
Maybe a harp to play

We wished that we could keep her longer,
Our hearts feel oh so broke

But Hadley is up in Heaven,
She’s probably telling God a joke

She lifted up our spirits,
With everything she did

And she never let us forget,
She was in charge – although she was just a kid

She chose who did what,
And even where you sat

Everyone did just what she said,
And that was that

 She liked to be silly,
Have fun and fool around

She might pick her little nose,
Under her blanket – where should couldn’t be found

She might ask you to turn your head,
So that you would not see

 When she played a prank,
She was fun as she could be

Please God help us to understand,
Why our Angel had to go away

Maybe it’s like Grandmama said,
She was just Too Sweet to Stay
